Let us change the fate of 200 African children! Let us build together with the French non profit HCMS-CEME a pre school in the city of Mbour in Senegal.
The Mission of HCMS-CEME: To fight exclusion and poverty. To fight child mortality due to malaria that kills 3000 African children a day by distributing mosquito nets, medicines and vaccines for other illnesses. To better the life conditions and access to education of children age 3 to 5 by building pre schools. To finance micro credits for mothers in difficulty. To help young disabled people to study and to get vocational training.
All the preschools in this country are private and much too expensive for the poor families. The children in these families speak only Wolof and have no hope to learn French, the language giving access to education. Our school in the poor new district of Mbour Zone Sonatel will take the small children age 3 to 5 off the streets towards a better future.
SENEGAL is a country of 11 million people half of which live in the cities of Dakar, Thiès and Mbour. 60% of the people are illiterate and The UN Human Development Programme puts Senegal at the 156 place out of 177 countries. The annual income per capita is $700 and one third of the population lives on less than one dollar a day. The official language is French and the local language is mostly Wolof.
MBOUR: Up to some years ago Mbour was a small fishing port. Today there are more than 300.000 people. A mass migration takes place due to the desertification of the villages. People go to the coast in search of employment and a better life for their families But the city has no means to take care of the newcomers – no homes, no hospitals, no schools. The small children are the first victims of this insecurity.
OUR PROJECT
Our project is to build a pre school with 4 large class rooms, offices for the teachers,
Sanitary facilities for children and adults, a kitchen to give a meal a day to the children, a workshop, a house for the guard and a technical unit producing electricity.
A special meeting room will be used for activities aimed at the help and information to the families, especially mothers in difficult situations as well as for evening classes for older girls obliged to work for their families during the day. Permanent education for the teachers will be provided.
Guaranties of the realisation of the Project
In August 2006 the City Council of Mbour has approved our Project and granted a plot of land of 2.800 square meters for the pubic pre school in the new district Zone Sonatel of more than 7000 people.
In February 2007 the Non Profit HCMS-CEME has signed an Agreement with the City of Mbour and with the Ministry of Education of Senegal. In this document the Non Profit committed to build the school, the Ministry will provide the teachers and the City of Mbour will provide all the other stuff of the school. It will also build the wall and the house for the guard.
The Architect of the Municipality has revised and approved the initial project of Monti-Giovanardi and the City has given the Building Licence.
The building of 500 square meters of premises, the play ground and the equipment of the school will cost 120.000 dollars. As soon as these moneys will be available the building can start. The totality of the founds will be dedicated to the school.
The building will be controlled by the architect of the City of Mbour and by Elena Malagodi the President of HCMS-CEME and Luigi Di Giamberardino the Vice-President. They will stay in Mbour at their own expenses during all the time of the building.
The state of the advancement of the works will be reported weekly to the donors and they will be welcome to come to Mbour to participate in the buildin
